first, their interest
then their hearts and minds with interactive games, mysteries, puzzles, and stories
How did Dog-Eared Publications get its name and logo?
We choose a fun name that reflects our love for both books and dogs. The term “dog-eared" is used to describe a page that someone has turned down to mark his or her place in a book, something we often find in well-loved books. Since we raise golden retrievers, the logo is a golden retriever with its ear showing.
The seeds for the book series were sown back on the first Earth Day in 1970. That year, publisher Nancy Field ("Nan") co-organized the first Earth Day events at South Dakota State University in Brooking, S.D., where she was working on a master's degree in wildlife biology.

The mission of Northwestern Publishing House is to deliver biblically sound, Christ-centered resources within the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod and beyond. We have fulfilled this mission for nearly 125 years. While publishing is much different today than when we first began, our ministry of serving others with the good news of salvation remains. God has blessed NPH with dedicated and gifted servants who daily carry out his work. We are deeply thankful for the people who have been instrumental in our ministry in years past and who play a role today.
To God be the glory!
Like you, we at Tessera were looking for a way to document all of our families’ major events, but were intimidated by the amount of time and level of creative skill required to make a great memory book. We wanted the flexibility of a scrapbook, without the time required to make a unique memory book.
We started the company because Susan couldn’t find a baby book for her first child. When she couldn’t find a book that was classy, not cheesy…with room for important information but not an overwhelming amount…with a nice design but was more about the information and less about the artwork…she bought a beautiful scrapbook. Unfortunately she quickly realized she was born without that gene. Sorry, her daughter wasn’t going to get a baby book. Upon the birth of her son 2 1/2 years later she was resolved to the fact that her children were not going to have baby books.
To better serve our diverse clientele, who fill the spectrum from single-copy books to larger run, experienced authors, we have gathered the following companies under one roof:

Richard Quinney continues to explore, to photograph, and to write about this daily life. The overall project is the connection between biography, philosophy, and spiritual life. The following books have been produced and published by Borderland Books, an independent press, since founding in 2005. The books are available on Amazon and ABE Books, or they can be ordered from Borderland Books.
The Shut Up & Write doll was painted by my friend, Mary Lou Bell. It reminds me of times she and other friends stood in doorways saying, "This way to the Judy Bridges workshop."
The tiny gorilla in the foreground is a mini version of my writing buddy, Alfred, who lets me write nonsense when I want to.
The red "book" in front of me is an early draft of my Shut Up & Write! manuscript.
I'm smiling. This is normal for me. I still giggle, and I sometimes growl. But I am never, ever, passive. Not even when I try to be.
Another thing I like about the photo is that there are no diplomas, no awards, no fancy icons on the wall. This is important, because when I'm teaching, it's not about me. It's about helping other people say what they want to say, write what they want to write. I'm a power in the room, and a helluva good leader, but where I come from doesn't matter nearly as much as where my students are going.
