Synergetic Press is more than a publisher. Books, both print and digital, are only part of our mission to promote mindful discussion of humankind’s present and future lives.
For over 35 years, we’ve published unique and paradigm-shifting ideas in subjects such as ecology, sustainability, cultural anthropology, consciousness, and psychedelics that inspire both individual and social change.
In the past decade, we’ve expanded our outreach beyond the book, hosting a number of symposiums and events both locally and internationally. By bringing together authors, readers, and experts within their fields, we’ve been able to cultivate a deeper interest in these topics within the community.
Artemesia Publishing was founded in 2004 with the vision of publishing unique and interesting books. We realized there were authors waiting to tell their stories who might be overlooked by the larger publishers. We are a micro-publisher based out of Albuquerque, New Mexico that works in partnership with authors to publish their work. By printing as few as two titles a year we have been able to focus on quality over quantity and this has led to numerous awards for our titles.
Our first titles were non-fiction, focusing on inspirational and real-life events. Our first fiction titles were for young readers and soon we had three middle-grade series being published. This focus on middle-grade fiction allowed us to create our first imprint, Kinkajou Press, in 2009, which publishes early reader, mid-grade, and YA fiction.

Over the weekend of 5/9/20-5/11/20, we discovered that our instore computer system had a catastrophic failure, wiping out our ability to use our instore registers, search our inventory, and access all of our customer data. This means that our staff has to look up every book individually rather than checking the computer.
We're so sorry for the inconvenience. We're disappointed and frustrated with this setback, but we’re making the best of it. Thank you so much for your patience!

Coas Books was founded in 1983 by archaeologist Pat Beckett. It started out as an archaeological publishing company specializing in anthropology books. As Pat's vast collection of books continued to grow, he purchased a local paperback exchange, and with that Coas Books was born. The name Coas has its roots in archaeology, coming from the Nahuatl term “coa” — meaning digging stick —, and the acronym for "Center of Anthropological Studies". Today, Coas Books is run and operated by Mike and Veronica Beckett as they continue to proudly serve the community in the heart of Las Cruces.
In the fall of 2014, Bookworks celebrated 30 years as a locally-owned and operated independent business.
As one of Albuquerque’s last remaining local, independent bookstores, we are dedicated to supporting our community and connecting books and readers.
Bookworks hosts 400-500 adult, young adult, and children's events annually.
We are most proud of these community partnerships and also our friendly, accommodative customer service. Being a brick-and-mortar store, we have limited space for stocking books, but we can fill special orders for books, audio books, and CDs usually in 2-3 business days--a turn-around time competitive with national online retailers. We can also research titles and authors you have heard on the radio or new books on topics of interest to you. We can find rare or out-of-print books for you. And like the online giants, we also offer e-books through our new partnership with Kobo, so whether you still read in print or on a screen, you can shop locally for all your book-buying needs.
