34 Top Book Publisher in New Mexico (part 3)

26.Coas Books On Solano

Coas Books was founded in 1983 by archaeologist Pat Beckett. It started out as an archaeological publishing company specializing in anthropology books. As Pat's vast collection of books continued to grow, he purchased a local paperback exchange, and with that Coas Books was born. The name Coas has its roots in archaeology, coming from the Nahuatl term “coa” — meaning digging stick —, and the acronym for "Center of Anthropological Studies". Today, Coas Books is run and operated by Mike and Veronica Beckett as they continue to proudly serve the community in the heart of Las Cruces.

This is Albuquerque. A friendly place just around the corner from ordinary, on land bisected by historic Route 66 and the great Rio Grande river, a stone’s throw from the monumental Sandia Mountains. Named for their sunset crimson hue—“sandia” is the Spanish word for “watermelon”—they appear to leap out of the landscape to the east, and serve as an awe-inspiring example of the kind of wild, natural beauty that wraps around everything here and rushes off in every direction throughout the state. You’ll see.

34.Aspectos Culturales

Semos Unlimited and New Mexico Highlands University have developed a New Mexico History Anthology. It is authored by various scholars. It was done as a topical anthology rather than a chronological book for two reasons. One is that Native American history really does not fit into a chronological telling of history. The second is that, with New Mexico's diversity of cultures, the members of those cultures need to speak for themselves. One author writing about these cultures would not be able to sense the deep culture that a native takes for granted. The book will come with a Teacher's Guide (by Georgia Roybal) on a disk. The Teacher's Guide contains the state content standards and benchmarks, a bibliography, charts/graphs/maps, suggested field trips, related music/ poetry/folklore/essays, periodicals, photos not contained in the book, suggested speakers, videos/movies/power points, web sites and worksheets (a crossword puzzle and study guide for each chapter) for each of the eight sections.
