84 Top Book Publishers in Colorado Part 4

34- My Word Publishing

Self-publishing has taken a wild ride in the past couple of years. And all for the better. Traditional publishing companies are either going out of business or merging to the point where there are only five left. Therefore they have to turn down 99% of the manuscripts that land on their desk. Because of this, many folks are resorting to a self-publishing company to fulfil their publication needs.

The good news is that with growth and technological breakthroughs not only can we publish our own books, but we can make all the decisions — and change them on the spot if they don’t work, at little or no cost!

Those of us at My Word Publishing navigate you through the process, but more importantly, we guide you to the right people; the vendors who bring your book alive. Our goal is to have you publish the book that you want and to have it be a joyful exciting experience, as opposed to a stressful one. Polly, our founder, says, “At My Word Publishing we want authors to birth the book of their vision, seamlessly, swiftly, and affordably.”

36- Editing By John

If you are just beginning: Ideally, Judith would love to work with every author as the book is conceived, acting as encourager and nurturer as the manuscript develops. That’s not always the case. Sometimes, she comes in midstream; at others, she has rescued the damage done by another publisher, service provider, and sometimes the author.

Judith brings passion, persistence, perception, planning and publishing power to the table. Her strategy is to “teach you” how to create your book and actively participate in the process.

Your first appointment will last a minimum of two hours. Regular and ongoing appointments will be set up—some are in her offices, others on the phone. Emails are sent often. You will not be in the dark. Depending on your project, and needs, the length of time will vary.

38- The Book Shepherd

If you are just beginning: Ideally, Judith would love to work with every author as the book is conceived, acting as encourager and nurturer as the manuscript develops. That’s not always the case. Sometimes, she comes in midstream; at others, she has rescued the damage done by another publisher, service provider, and sometimes the author.

Judith Briles is an innovative and creative guide who will assist you with your book and publishing projects. She has mentored up-and-coming authors and publishers for years and dedicated hundreds of hours to educating others to the pitfalls, and joys, of the publishing world.

Book Shepherds come in all kinds of sizes and shapes, providing a variety of services and charging a wide range of fees. At one end of the spectrum are Shepherds that do similar work to that of book packagers. They will literally take over the development of the book –rewrites or ghosting, editing, cover and interior design, printing, marketing and in some cases, PR. Your investment could range from $20,000 to $50,000 plus. That’s a lot of money. Not with Judith.

43- Sharp Teeth Publishing

Sharp Teeth Publishing was established by Kayresia A. Bass in 2011. I began my literary journey as early as fourteen years old. I didn't know the potential I had in me, but a teacher in high school did. My first manuscript was presented to him and was actually read aloud in class. It made me proud, and that very act sparked something in me, that didn’t manifest until I graduated high school. Maybe one day I would be a published author. That was 1985.

In the later months of 2011, I started my own publishing company. Sharp Teeth Publishing. Well, at least at that time I thought it was a company. I had no idea of what it actually took to take my idea to fame, but I would learn that "You can't just publish a book and become famous. It takes work." Those were the words to me after I hit a low, with bad reviews to go with it. I was going to have to figure out how to get my company off the ground, or at least gain some followers that were passionate about my work.

44- JT Publishing

James Toliver, our founder, is a Colorado-native and Vietnam War Veteran. Vietnam made a really big impact on him, and he found he needed an outlet to work through the tragedy and other happenings in life. He knew that working through the experiences and sometimes suffering had to be done to survive and get healthy. He had always been creative, scribbling notes in the margins of his notebooks at school, creating lines of verse in his head while on duty. He realized that the tragic losses he had experienced, witnessed, in life, had to find a way to heal, and hopefully, a way to help others heal and maybe even be inspired. He did a lot of work on filling his heart with love, healing the wounds and softening the scars. His outlet was poetry.
