It is generally agreed that Penguin Random House and Simon & Schuster are among the top publishers in terms of market share, followed by HarperCollins, Hachette Book Group, and Macmillan Publishers. These five publishers are considered the "big five" publishers in the US book industry and have a significant share of the market. In general, the "big five" publishers tend to have a larger market share than smaller independent publishers, due to their resources, distribution networks, and ability to promote and market their books effectively. However, the market share for independent publishers has been growing in recent years, thanks to the rise of self-publishing and the increasing popularity of e-books. It's also worth mentioning that the ebook market share is growing faster than the physical book market share, and the big five publishers dominate the ebook market as well.
