Mystery & Crime Book Publishing Services

Updated: Mar 16, 2023

If you are interested in reading mystery and crime novels, you should look into some of the mystery and crime book publishing options available. Many of the big names in the industry are publishing titles, but there are also smaller, independent publishers that are putting out some fantastic books.

Seventh Street Books

Seventh Street Books is a mystery and crime book publisher that has won a number of prestigious awards. They have published a number of best-selling titles, and are currently looking for new authors to work with. Founded in 2012, this small New Jersey-based company has been gaining recognition for its quality publications.

Their website is easy to navigate, and they have an impressive list of award-winning novels that have been published by them. The company's team shows a lot of enthusiasm and attention to detail. They are looking for thrillers, crime fiction, and domestic suspense. Seventh Street is also accepting submissions from writers without an agent.

They do not accept romance or young adult works. They are interested in stories involving women. In fact, they prefer to receive exclusive submissions. If you are interested, you can send your manuscript to their editor by e-mail.

Bella Books

Bella Books Mystery & Crime Book Publishing was founded in 2010. The company is based in Rock Hill, SC and focuses on promoting great literature. They also have a variety of genres to choose from, including romance, thrillers, general fiction, and chick-lit. Their award-winning books are a hit with lesbian readers across the globe.

One of the best things about Bella is that they make it easy for writers to get their name out there. They offer a wide range of free resources to promote authors and help them reach their target audience. Whether it's an author newsletter, an ebook giveaway, or a contest, they have you covered. While it's hard to beat the buzz around Bella's list of free resources, there are other companies that can offer you the same benefits at a price you can afford. Some of them are the Felony & Mayhem Press and Seventh Street Books. These publishers are great for aspiring mystery writers. They focus on traditional mysteries, as well as British mysteries. Felony & Mayhem accepts manuscripts in Word or PDF format.

Black Opal Books

Black Opal Books is an independent publisher located in the Pacific Northwest. As the name suggests, the main emphasis is on crime fiction and mystery novels, but they also have a nice selection of chick-lit and non-fiction titles for readers of all ages.

The company also publishes screenplays and novellas in addition to its standard fiction offerings. The company has an open submission period from June to December every year. Unlike most publishers, they are also open to backlists. They boast a stellar royalty rate for their books. In their list of awards, they've won a slew of accolades, including two of the most prestigious awards in the industry. Most recently, they were shortlisted for an Independent Publisher of the Year award in the UK. If you're in the market for a new release, they're certainly worth a look.

Blind Eye Books

The name Blind Eye Books may sound like an oxymoron, but this mystery and crime book publisher has a stellar track record. In fact, they have been nominated for Lambda, the award for LGBTQ fiction. As for the company itself, it is based in Bellingham, Washington, and has been known for putting out quality fiction. Some of their notable offerings include the Bitter Legacy by Dal MacLean and Ginn Hale's Love is in the Air.

They also make a point of showcasing the finest of the LGBTQ genre. Their latest offering, Jonathan Mack's A Stranger Among Saints, demonstrates that. The company's website doesn't provide a lot of information, but a quick Google search turns up the plethora of awards the company has won. It's not surprising that they have a small but devoted fanbase. On top of that, they are open to submissions of physical and digital works of art.

Brother Mockingbird Publishing

Brother Mockingbird Publishing (BMPP) is a relative newcomer on the publishing scene. They haven't been around long enough to make a name for themselves, but they are well on their way to becoming one. Their mission is to help you bring your fiction to the masses by utilizing a few old fashioned and nefarious tricks of the trade. BMPP's mission is to promote a wide variety of genres and authors, while providing the resources necessary to get your book into the hands of its readers. BMPP's best-of-the-bests ethos is to assist in your efforts by securing your best literary assets and putting them to good use. For instance, BMPP provides you with a free critique and a publishing ad, both of which are well written, professional, and most importantly, fun. So, if you're looking for a reputable ally to help you get your foot in the door, BMPP is your best bet.

Felony & Mayhem Press

The Felony & Mayhem Press is an independent publisher of mystery and crime books. Their focus is to publish literary mysteries for adults. They publish fiction ranging from true-crime to detective fiction. As of this writing, they have published over 100 titles.

In addition to publishing novels, the Felony & Mayhem Press also reprints out-of-print mystery books. Titles are available in print or electronic formats.

The Felony & Mayhem catalog is located online. They also accept submissions by email. The publisher prefers manuscripts that are at least 85,000 words in length. It is also open to the genres of mystery, thriller, or romance. Felony & Mayhem's list of authors includes Annamaria Alfieri and Stephen King. One of their most recent titles, My Dear Charlotte, is expected to be released by the end of this year. Although they are relatively new to the mystery publishing world, Felony & Mayhem has established a solid reputation for reprinting out-of-print mysteries. They are in a position to break even on annualized sales of one million by the end of 2006.

The other mystery and crime publishers listed here are all independent. Some are based in the U.S., while others are based in the United Kingdom.

Crooked Lane

The publisher Crooked Lane Mystery & Crime Book Publishing has been producing quality, suspenseful crime fiction for years. They also publish audio books, books on audio, and even eBooks. Crooked Lane Books is an American publishing company that specializes in mysteries, thrillers, and psychological thrillers. Some of their most popular authors include Joy Ellis, whose 'Their Lost Daughters' was a Kindle best-seller in February.

Alcove Press is a division of Crooked Lane. They're devoted to books for book clubs and reading groups. With eight titles already published, more will be added by the end of the year. These titles will be available in eBook format on hoopla digital.

Faith Black Ross has been working in the publishing industry for over a decade. She has worked for Penguin Random House and Berkley Publishing Group, among others. As well as being a book buyer, she's a certified manuscript editor.

Camel Press

Camel Press is a small, award-winning publisher. It was founded in 2014 by Jasper Joffe. The publishing house is approved by the International Thriller Writers and the Mystery Writers of America. Camel Press has published many books, including The Cruelest Cut by Gene Rontal, Dead Write by Susan Richards, and several other novels. They also publish anthologies.

The publisher is also active in promoting romance, as evidenced by the fact that they accept submissions from all sub-genres of romance. Their list of titles includes The Dog Club Mystery Series by Valerie Burns, which has been nominated for the Agatha Awards.

The Camel Press is open to submissions that are between 50,000 and 100,000 words in length. They do not accept partial manuscripts and prefer polished works that are creative and original. In addition to mystery and crime book publishing, Camel Press also offers westerns, science fiction, horror, romance, and popular fiction. If you are interested in being published by this publisher, you can submit a sample of your work.

Dover Mystery Classics

Dover aficionados have plenty to sift through. Whether it's the latest in thrillers, romance or cops and gangsters, you'll find plenty of escapist reading material here. With their wide range of spine-tingling titles, you're sure to discover the best read for you. They've also got some interesting ones that may be more of a challenge to track down than you'd expect.

Not to mention their robust eBook and ePub offerings. For example, there's a lot to be said for the Kindle and Kobo formats. From there, there are hundreds of titles to choose from. While some are reprints and re-releases, others are newly published. There's something for everyone here. You can even sign up for a subscription to their newsletter for free. This makes them an ideal choice for a bibliophile with a budget to burn. The company also runs a slew of online contests and offers a reward program that's designed to encourage your best reads.

Oceanview

Oceanview Mystery and Crime Book Publishing is a fast-growing independent publisher in the United States. It is owned and operated by Bob and Pat Gussin, who are passionate about mysteries and crime fiction. Their goal is to make it easier for extraordinary talent to publish.

The press offers authors two publishing options: print or digital. They publish up to fifteen original novels each year. In addition, they are open to reprints of all genres.

As a fast-growing publisher, Oceanview has received several awards. One of their most recent honors is the Thriller Legend Award from the International Thriller Writers Association.

In addition to publishing mystery and crime novels, Oceanview has also been successful in bringing together a variety of writers. They work to promote the works of new and experienced authors. Another independent publisher, Level Best, accepts submissions from published authors and from authors who want to relaunch a backlist. They are looking for contemporary and historical genres, as well as thrillers and suspense.
