Many of these banned titles are works of fiction and non-fiction informational works. However, the majority of these titles involve content that is explicitly sexual or obscene. One of the biggest threats to free expression comes from a well-organized group of parents demanding control over school books. Some of these parents are concerned about depictions of teenage sexuality. Other parents on the left are concerned about texts that deal with racism. Despite their differences in opinion, both groups agree that it's important to have a dialogue between educators, librarians, and parents to determine what is appropriate for students.
