Honors Program

As a member of the Jane Stephens Honors Program, you'll get the chance to sharpen your academic strengths and pursue your scholarly and creative goals. You'll also have the opportunity to meet and interact with other exceptional students.

One of the best parts about the Honors Program is getting to know the faculty who teach your classes. These professors have to apply and be selected for their honors positions, which means you're going to be learning from some of the best instructors around. They come with a doctoral degree, a demonstrated record of excellence in teaching, at least two years of experience teaching at the university level, and recommendations from their chairperson or dean.

Another reason you'll want to take honors courses is because they tend to have much smaller class sizes than other classes at Southeast. This means that, more often than not, you'll be able to form study groups with other students in your classes and really get to know them.

You'll also be able to choose from a wide range of Honors courses to fill out your schedule. This is especially helpful if you have an intense interest or passion for certain subjects and are looking to build your curriculum to include them.

Besides taking Honors courses, you'll also be able to live on the Honors Floor of LaFerla Hall, a modern-style residence hall that's designed for honors students. You'll have access to study rooms, lounges, microwaves, TVs, free laundry, pool tables and a variety of other amenities.

Finally, you'll be able to get involved with the Student Honors Council and develop important leadership skills while in the program. This gives you the opportunity to build lifelong relationships with other members of the community who share your desire to learn and grow.

In addition to academics, you'll also have the opportunity to participate in many other activities and special events, including trips to the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C., and to other universities across the country. These experiences will help you develop the social connections that are critical to a successful college career.
