If you are looking for travel books, you can find many different publishers. The list includes Frommer's, Lonely Planet, BillyFish Books, and the Blue List. Some publishers specialize in just one type of book, such as a guide to a specific destination. For example, if you are interested in visiting the United States, you can find several books about the state, or you can pick up a book on the history of the country.
Lonely Planet
Lonely Planet is the world's largest travel book publisher. It has published over 120 million books, in over 11 languages, across nearly every continent. And the company has a rich history. Founded in 1973 by Tony Wheeler and Maureen Wheeler, the company started off with a travel guidebook that was created in their home. The first Lonely Planet travel guide was inspired by their honeymoon trip. Their trip took them across Europe and Australia.
As Lonely Planet grew, its first print run of Across Asia on the Cheap sold out in ten days. This was the beginning of the company's success. By 1979, the company had sold more than 100,000 copies of its India guidebook.
While the Lonely Planet's initial business model consisted of travel guides and maps, the company expanded into other related products, including children's books. In 1998, the company released its first coffee table book.
In 2000, the company added seven new product categories, including World Food. These titles covered culture, cuisine, and adventures.
In 2007, Lonely Planet was sold to the BBC. They also closed their Australian and London offices. However, Lonely Planet will continue to publish travel guidebooks through their Tennessee office. Lonely Planet is currently owned by Red Ventures, a firm that has invested in several travel-related businesses. The company recently announced a rebranding. That includes a redesigned website and a logo.
Frommer's
Frommer's Travel Guides is one of the best-known names in travel book publishing. The company's catalog typically includes over 100 titles in multiple series, and is regularly stocked with perennial best-sellers.
Frommer's has been publishing travel guides since 1957. It was founded by Arthur Frommer, who wrote the first budget guide to Europe. After the book was published, Americans began to see that they could actually afford to travel in Europe.
Since then, Frommer's has become the travel industry's leading brand. For many years, the company's books accounted for about 25 percent of all travel guide sales in the United States. However, the sales of guidebooks are on the decline.
Aside from guidebooks, the company also publishes a wide variety of specialty guides. They're particularly focused on budget travelers, and include extensive information on restaurants, hotels, and transportation. These publications are often featured in popular movies and TV shows. Frommer's most recent book is "Frommer's Complete." This travel guide is a comprehensive guide to the entire world. Frommer's global guide provides details on hundreds of potential destinations and experiences, including unique and unusual travel ideas. There are also web addresses, contact information, and infinite details on accommodations, transportation, and local services. In addition to the book, the company has produced an application for the Apple iPhone and iPod touch. Users can download the application and read local recommendations for places to go and things to do. Additionally, subscribers can also access reviews of restaurants and hotels, as well as other helpful tips.
Allison & Busby
This independent publishing house is not just for travel enthusiasts, it's also a great source for literary connoisseurs. They have titles by the likes of Ruth Silvestre and Michael Sells. And they're always looking for something new, whether it's a new author or a new genre of fiction. With a staff of around 200, they're capable of churning out about 250 titles per year. So, if you have a travel related manuscript in your pocket, be sure to take the plunge.
The first three titles cost less than a tenner. They were the brainchild of two friends, Margaret Busby and Clive Allison. Their office was located in the upper reaches of a Victorian house in Soho. Not only was it a quirky locale, it was also home to an impressive vista down Great Marlborough Street. While it wasn't a place you'd typically expect to find literary luminaries, it was nevertheless a haven for creativity and a hive of activity.
What started out as a side project became a full time gig and the likes of Margaret and Clive rolled over to the big smoke. For a time, their most impressive feat was putting out a plethora of travel related literature of all shapes and sizes. As their roster of notable authors grew, so did their staff. They have a knack for finding the best and brightest writers to snag, and with a steady hand, they're able to publish a hefty number of high quality titles each and every year.
BillyFish Books
If you are looking for an independent travel book publisher, then you may want to take a look at BillyFish Books. They have won the Benjamin Franklin Award and the Eric Hoffer Award for their publications. Their motto is to help connect talented authors to readers.
They publish both fiction and non-fiction. They are an independent company and are open to submissions from independent writers. You can submit a query letter containing a brief synopsis of your book and a list of previously published works. For fiction, you will need to provide the title of the manuscript. Alternatively, you can send them the first chapter. The query letters should be submitted via email.
Another independent travel book publisher is Broken Column Press. Their motto is to help "champion honest writers". As with all literary presses, you need to include a query letter containing a synopsis of your manuscript. Whether you are looking for an editor or a full-blown manuscript, you can send them your query letters by regular mail or by email.
Lastly, there is the Blue River Press. This small independent publishing company based in Indianapolis, Indiana, focuses on publishing travel titles. To get started, you need to send a query letter with a short bio and a sample chapter. Currently, they are looking for new book proposals. However, they are reopening their doors for travel manuscripts in January 2019.
Regardless of your genre, you can find a publisher for your travel writing. With the right publication, you can find a home for your book and become a better writer.
Menasha Ridge Press
The Menasha Ridge Press is a small book publishing company based in Birmingham, Alabama, that specializes in producing books for outdoor activities, wildlife, travel, and educational purposes. It has been in the business for many years, and has received numerous awards, including the Lowell Thomas Gold Award. They publish books on all sorts of subjects, from canoeing to hiking.
They are currently looking for manuscripts for all ages, from children's books to young adult literature. Some of their titles include "Imagine that - History of Travel Rewritten," by Michael Sells, and "Travel and Working Holidays," by Samantha Koch.
If you have a manuscript that you would like to send in, you should mail it to the Menasha Ridge Press, at the address below. You should also include a cover letter and SASE for a response. In addition, they also accept manuscripts via email. When sending in a manuscript, you should include a short synopsis, a sample chapter, and a self-addressed stamped envelope. The Menasha Ridge Press publishes a wide range of books, from kayaking and canoeing guides to books about hiking, nature, wildlife, and the outdoors. Their books are written by industry professionals, and they are packed with helpful tips and advice. To learn more about this company, visit their website.
If you're interested in writing for Menasha Ridge Press, you should contact their editor, Bob Sehlinger, by email or mail. He's been in the publishing business for over twenty-seven years, and he can help you with your manuscript.
