About the Country
Kazakhstan is a country in Central Asia, bordered by Russia to the north, China to the east, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan to the south, and the Caspian Sea to the west. It is the largest landlocked country in the world and the ninth largest country by area. The official language is Kazakh, and the currency is the Kazakhstani Tenge. The population is predominantly ethnic Kazakh, but there are also significant minority groups, including Russian, Ukrainian, and Uzbeks. The capital and largest city is Nur-Sultan, formerly known as Astana. The country is rich in natural resources, including oil, gas, and minerals, and is also a major producer of wheat and other agricultural products. The economy is driven by the extraction of natural resources and has undergone significant growth since the country gained independence from the Soviet Union in 1991.
