Islam Book Publishing is one of the biggest publishers in the Muslim world. It offers a wide variety of Islamic books that cover a wide range of subjects. They offer books on the Quran, hadith, Arabic grammar, Islamic economics, and more. In addition, they also publish books that deal with politics and other areas of interest to Muslims.
Al-Biruni
The astronomer Abu Rayhan Muhammad ibn Ahmad al-Biruni was a cosmopolitan scholar. Born in 362 H (4th September AD 973) in the town of Kath in modern Khwarizm, he lived for most of his life in Ghazna. During his lifetime, Biruni made an important contribution to astronomy. Al-Biruni studied a wide range of disciplines, and his work has inspired scholars for many years. His writings include a number of works, such as an encyclopedia of astronomy, al-Qanun al-mas'udi fi'l-haya wa'l-nojum (The Astronomy of the Ancient Nations), and an exhaustive treatise on shadows, Exhaustive Treatise on Shadows.
He studied mathematics and astronomy, and he was interested in geography, metaphysics, and medicine. In addition to his astronomical work, he also wrote a book on mineralogy.
His major work, the al-Qanun al-mas'udi, is a detailed study of astronomy. It is divided into eleven maqalas, or treatises, and discusses basic concepts of astronomy, mathematical geography, calendars, and the heavenly bodies. Among the many aspects covered, the book explains the Greek astronomers' theory of the earth.
Biruni also spent time studying the religions of the east. In his writings, he presents Shi'ite and Sunnite positions fairly. But he shows no affinity to Manichean doctrines, and rejects the notion of transmutation. A number of his works, such as Ketab al-jamaher fi ma'refat al-jawaher and Ketab al-atar al-baqia al-qorun al-kalia, show his sympathy for the Shi'ite religion.
In his later years, he devoted his attention to mineralogy. He recorded his observations in his books, which were then translated into Arabic. These works, which are among the best in medieval Arabic literature, include Ketab al-jamaher fi l-salin (The Book of Minerals) and Ketab al-jamaher fi fi'l-ma'refat al-jawaher (The Book of the Minerals of Europe).
While the majority of his contemporaries were focusing on the construction of astronomical tables, al-Biruni was concerned with his own development as a chemist and geographer. At his death, he had published 22 works, half of them in exact sciences.
Al-Qibjaqi
Al-Qibjaqi Islam Book Publishing relates to the work of Al-Qibjaqi. It was written in Arabic and dedicated to Sultan Qalaun. The translation of the book was done by Carl Ehrig-Eggert. Several years later, Marie-Theres Debarnot edited the book. Other translators include Rizkallah F. Azoo and Abu Sahl Al-Masihi. A 16th century Latin translation of the manuscript is kept at the Cambridge University Library in the UK.
Among the Islamic scholars of the 10th and 11th centuries, many authored books. These books are often translated into English. One book that is published in German is Al-Kindi. Another book in English is Al-Farghani and Al-Battani. UNESCO also published Science and Technology in Islam. Abu alAia al-Masri, Ibn Sina and Ibn Fadhlan all wrote works. They are renowned for their knowledge of the Quran. Some of their works include Kitab al-Tasrif, Kitab al-Qital, Al-Muqaddasi's Ahsan al-Taqaddasi and Kitab a-Shifa.
Al-Khwarizmi also wrote a book. His work includes a Picture Book of the Earth. Najm al-Din Hassan, Jabir Ibn Hayyan, Ibn Fadhlan, Abbas al-Tilimsani, and Ibn Luyun Al-Tujjibi also wrote works.
Other writers whose work is referenced in Al-Qibjaqi's book are Al-Bitruji and Al-Idrisi. Their work is transcribed from the original Arabic text. Al-Bitruji wrote a book on Cosmology. In addition, he wrote a treatise on Gems. He is credited with adding geometrical figures to the arts. Other writings that are transcribed are The Muqaddimah, the Travelogue, and the Kitab al-Sab'in. Some of these works are in the Vatican Library 1424. There are also original manuscripts in Leipzig and other European libraries. As for the other book, it is a compilation of historical works. There are three editions of the book.
Nuzhat al-Mushtaq fi 'khtirak al-Afaq
Nuzhat al-Mushtaq fi 'khtirak al-Afaq was written in the 12th century by Al-Sharif al-Idrisi. In it, the author compiled a map of the world and a socio-economic record of the time. The book also contains a biography of al-Sharif al-Idrisi.
Al-Idrisi was an Arab geographer. He was influenced by Ptolemy's Geography. His book is particularly valuable for data on the Mediterranean basin and the Balkans. However, he failed to use important contributions from other scientists of his time.
Another important contributor was the alchemist Nomanul Haq. The theory of visual perception, which is an English translation of his work, is published by UNESCO in Science and Technology in Islam.
Other geographers of the Islamic world include Al-Bitruji and Al-Khwarizmi. Their works are available in several collections. A copy of al-Bitruji's manuscript is kept at Cambridge University Library, UK. Al-Khwarizmi's work is a collection of books on geography. Some of his books include the Picture Book of Mountains, the Book of Geography, and the Picture Book of the Earth. There are also other works by Al-Idrisi. These include a number of geographic works and a book of ingenious war devices. Al-Idrisi also edited the Arabic edition of The Book of Astrology.
Al-Suli is another author who wrote a book of chess endgames. He also published Kitab al-Tasrif Liman 'Ajaz 'an al-Ta'lif. This book is a compilation of the works of other geographers.
Many other authors of geographical works also exist. A few of these are reprinted in collections and as individual publications. Others are collected and translated. Among these are the works of Ibn Fadhlan, Abu Bakr Muhammad bin Tufayl, and Abu 'Uthman Sa'd b. Ahmad.
Al-Jazari
Isma'il Ibn al-Razzaz Jazari was an Arab Muslim engineer and scholar during the Islamic Golden Age. He was noted for his mechanical inventions, including a portable water-powered scribe clock. His book, Kitab fi ma'rifat al-hiyal al-handasiyya (Book of Knowledge of Ingenious Mechanical Devices) details fifty different devices. These devices range from drinking vessels to fountains and clocks.
The book includes drawings, dimensions, and texts that provide instructions on the construction of each device. It also provides descriptions of the devices' functions and practical information. For example, Al-Jazari's book explains how to calibrate locks and how hydraulic cushions work. The book describes several other devices, such as a lion, peacock, monkey, phoenix, and six dragons. Several unidentified animals and fish are also described. There are also a number of paintings that illustrate the devices. Some of these paintings are now in private collections, and others have been reconstructed and are on display in international museums of art.
Although his designs look a lot like Leonardo da Vinci's notebooks, they are actually modeled on the designs of previous engineers. Al-Jazari's ideas were useful for later development of mechanical technology. Among the most significant of his inventions were automatons.
One of the most famous of his inventions was the "elephant clock". This programmable water-powered scribe clock could be adjusted for seasonal changes in light. The clock tracked the transit of the sun and moon, and the dominant sign of the zodiac. Another device was a robotic band that played various songs.
Aside from his work in engineering, Isma'il Ibn Al-Razzaz Jazari was also an accomplished artist. He combined mechanical skills with humor and artistic flair. During his life, he lived in the court of the Artuqid kings in Diyarbakir, Turkey.
Book of Highways and Kingdoms
One of the most impressive feats of the Islamic dynasty was its enlightenment and the illustrious golden age that followed. To round up the top dogs, a few names whose names are known to the eardrums are mentioned in a well-heeled manner. Amongst them is one of the last remaining members of the fabled house of kings. Its ilk has been keeping the lion's share of the family's fortunes for a plethora of years. Keeping in mind that the aforementioned lion's share of its bounty is a princely sum, it would be nice if the aforementioned lord of the castle wished to be spared the yoke of a nefarious nation that would be happy to reciprocate.
